If wet braking matters most
Graded A for wet grip, and nothing else that fits is graded higher. Graded A for rolling resistance, the best of anything here, and that is the figure that shows on the range display. EPREL registration 2561730.

The Volvo EC40 leaves the factory on 235/45 R20 and 235/50 R19 depending on wheel size, and the 235/50 R19 103H XL below is the one most owners are replacing. XL is not optional here; it is what the car was type approved on. It is staggered: a 235 section at the front and a 255 at the back, so the two can never be swapped across axles and the rear goes first. The Mercedes-Benz EQB takes the same size.
| Generation | Trim | Wheel | Tire size | Load index | Speed | Construction | Marking | Pressure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Current | 19in (US-spec) | 19in | 235/50 R19 front, 255/45 R19 rear | 103 | H | XL | none | see plate |
| Current | 20in | 20in | 235/45 R20 front, 255/40 R20 rear | 100 | V | XL | none | see plate |
Your own placard is the authority. You will find it on the on the driver's door jamb, on the B-pillar. Where it disagrees with this page, it wins. Match or exceed the size, load index, speed rating and construction class it gives, and use its pressure figure rather than anything printed on the tire.
The EC40, sold as the C40 Recharge until 2024, is the lower-roofed sister of the EX40 and uses the same staggered 20 inch pair: 235/45 R20 100 XL front and 255/40 R20 101 XL rear.
Its 19 inch fitment is taken from the US listings, 103H front and 104H rear, both XL. Michelin's UK listing for the 2026 car gives standard-load 99V and 100V on the same sizes instead, so a UK owner on 19 inch wheels should read the sidewall before ordering.
On 20 inch wheels the rear sidewall is about 102 mm deep, against about 115 mm on the 19 inch rear.
How these were chosen. Everything here already clears this vehicle's own load index, speed rating and construction class. Each heading is a question about use rather than a ranking. The whole method.

Measured at 72 decibels. Graded B for wet grip. EPREL registration 558686.
A winter tire, so a second set rather than a replacement for what is on the car now. Graded D for wet grip. Graded B for rolling resistance. EPREL registration 727663.
Rated below the speed this vehicle left the factory at, which is permitted for a winter tire and is why it carries a T or an R. The load index and the construction class still match. Do not exceed the tire's own rating while it is fitted.
Ordering is by the registered label figure, not by anything we think of them.
A studless winter tire built for the weight and the rolling resistance demands of an electric car.

Designed for electric cars from the ground up rather than adapted from a combustion tire, and the winner of the 2025 Auto Bild EV tire test.
A Korean-built summer tire that turns up as original equipment more often than its profile suggests, graded A for fuel efficiency.
Kumho's electric-car version of the Ecsta PS71, with its own tread and a casing built for the weight and instant torque of an EV.
A touring summer tire built with Bridgestone's Enliten construction, which cuts weight and rolling resistance across the range rather than in one model.
A high performance summer tire available in the Y rated sizes that heavy, fast electric cars are specified with.
An efficiency-first summer tire aimed squarely at range rather than at cornering.
A performance summer tire built for heavy, fast electric cars, with an acoustic foam liner bonded inside the cavity.
Every figure here comes from one tire maker's own fitment data, checked across different years or trims. That is a second look rather than a second opinion, so check the label on your door jamb before you buy.
