Hyundai Kona Electric tyres

Hyundai Kona Electric

Alexander Migl · CC BY-SA 4.0

The Hyundai Kona Electric leaves the factory on 215/55 R17 and 215/60 R17 and 235/45 R19 depending on wheel size, and the 215/55 R17 94V below is the one most owners are replacing. A standard load 94 rating is modest for an electric car and says something about where this one's kerb weight sits. The Ford Puma Gen-E takes the same size.

What you are looking for, drawn. The real one is on on the driver's door jamb, on the b-pillar, and its figures are the ones that count.

Your own placard is the authority. You will find it on the on the driver's door jamb, on the B-pillar. Where it disagrees with this page, it wins. Match or exceed the size, load index, speed rating and construction class it gives, and use its pressure figure rather than anything printed on the tyre.

What changes on this car

The two generations do not share a size. The original Kona Electric ran 215/55 R17 at load index 94 on every version, while the second generation moved to a taller 215/60 R17 at 96 and added a 19 inch option, so check which body you have before ordering.

Only the second-generation 19 inch fitment is extra load: 235/45 R19 99V XL carries 775 kg per corner on a sidewall about 106 mm deep, the shallowest in the Kona range. Hyundai lists Kumho and Nexen as original suppliers for that size.

In the US the 19 inch wheel comes with the N Line trim; the SE, SEL and Limited stay on the 17 inch tyre.

Which one to buy

How these were chosen. Everything here already clears this vehicle's own load index, speed rating and construction class. Each heading is a question about use rather than a ranking. The whole method.

Common questions

What size tyres does the Hyundai Kona Electric take?
It runs 215/55 R17 and 215/60 R17 and 235/45 R19. The exact fitment for your car is on On the driver's door jamb, on the B-pillar.
Can I fit a cheaper tyre to a Hyundai Kona Electric?
Only at 215/55 R17 94V or better. That is the figure to hold: a tyre below the load index, the speed rating or the construction class is not a cheaper one, it is the wrong one.
