Nissan Leaf tyres

Nissan Leaf

Vauxford · CC BY-SA 4.0

The Nissan Leaf leaves the factory on 195/60 R18 and 205/55 R16 and 215/50 R17 and 215/55 R18 and 235/45 R19 depending on wheel size, and the 205/55 R16 91V below is the one most owners are replacing. A standard load 91 rating is modest for an electric car and says something about where this one's kerb weight sits. The Citroën ë-C3 takes the same size.

What you are looking for, drawn. The real one is on on the driver's door jamb, on the b-pillar, and its figures are the ones that count.

Your own placard is the authority. You will find it on the on the driver's door jamb, on the B-pillar. Where it disagrees with this page, it wins. Match or exceed the size, load index, speed rating and construction class it gives, and use its pressure figure rather than anything printed on the tyre.

What changes on this car

The first two Leaf generations share their sizes: 205/55 R16 or 215/50 R17, both at load index 91 and V rated in European spec. US cars were built on P-metric P205/55R16 89H and P215/50R17 90V, which the 91V sizes listed here meet or exceed.

For the first generation, Michelin's UK selector also lists 89H and 90V alongside the 91V figures, matching the US P-metric spec. The 91V is the safe choice whichever a car arrived on.

The third generation, now a crossover, switches to 18 and 19 inch wheels and to XL construction throughout. Its base 195/60 R18 is unusually narrow and tall for the class, with a sidewall of about 117 mm.

Nissan names a Michelin e.Primacy on the narrow 18 inch and Hankook iON evo on the other two third-generation sizes.

Which one to buy

How these were chosen. Everything here already clears this vehicle's own load index, speed rating and construction class. Each heading is a question about use rather than a ranking. The whole method.

If wet braking matters most

Graded A for wet grip, and nothing else that fits is graded higher. Graded C for rolling resistance. EPREL registration 1211481.

Common questions

What size tyres does the Nissan Leaf take?
It runs 195/60 R18 and 205/55 R16 and 215/50 R17 and 215/55 R18 and 235/45 R19. The exact fitment for your car is on On the driver's door jamb, on the B-pillar.
Can I fit a cheaper tyre to a Nissan Leaf?
Only at 205/55 R16 91V or better. That is the figure to hold: a tyre below the load index, the speed rating or the construction class is not a cheaper one, it is the wrong one.
